“I know all the tricks too my grandma’s a lady of the night. And yes I could be lulling you into false sense of security. But why when I could just use my powers if I wanted too?”
He really did not see a point in deceiving girls to try and get them into his bed or something. Why trick them when so many wanted to just jump right in? Yet he did understand they had just met so why should he expect her to trust him right away just by his own word? It was nice that she was not taking her statement too seriously. He flashed a devilish grin at her as he watched her put on her putting her shoes on and then checking how she looked. From what he saw he did not think there was any need for that.
Opening the door he bowed down in a sweeping gesture just to put his performance over the top.
“After you my dear.”
He followed her out into the hall and as he started walking down the hall with her he heard some whispering behind him. Then a little outraged gasp without even glancing over his shoulder he knew the girls he had originally cam with and finely gone looking for him and have just found him. But he did not look back at all and just kept walking with Riley.
“I do believe we have already started rumors flying. So how dose it feel to be talked about behind your back by people who don’t even know you?”

"Fair point"
Riley conceded, her curiosity further spiked by the casual admission that his grandmother had been a 'lady of the night'. This wasn't necessarily that shocking, unfortunately veelas came with certain stereotypes that weren't very fair--even less so when some of the species seemed determined to live up to every one of them. It was food for thought though. What had his childhood been like as an irresistable magical creature who got ugly when they got angry? Then wizarding powers on top of it? It couldn't have been a field of roses, that was for sure. The witch preceded him from the room, enjoying the over-top gesture even though she was far from your typical romantic--Riley's idea of seduction was a pretty box with even prettier expensive shoes in them. Or a cup of the best coffee in the world. Or pets.. though not all those things at the same time!
Vance distracted her by pointing out the mistwell girls who were watching them none-too-kindly, their pretty faces sulky and mad. Oops. Not the way to make friends in her house... Riley shot them a blinding smile and a jaunty wave, her stride long and easy as she kept pace with the handsome wizard.
"I'd say it feels exactly like Highschool. But I'm not stressing about it: I'm the new girl, they're going to say whatever they want about me precisely because they don't know me and they don't know any better"
aquamarine eyes glanced up at him searchingly, a small frown marring her smooth brow.
"Unless it bothers you? I mean, I hope it doesn't--I'd like to think we're friends?"
It would mean a lot to her confidence if she knew she had at least one friend in this big place.

The bow and all was just a little flamboyant act he was putting on for her for it amused him at this point. Not that he was trying to be overly romantic or anything he just felt like doing this right now. Who knows what would amuse him next? He chuckled when she just waved at the annoyed girls and did not seem hardly bothered at all. A rather good sign some girls were too wrapped up in what others thought of them they normally were too whiny to deal with. Which is what those other girls were like and why he had gotten bored.
“If it would have bothered me I would not have left them in the first place. I could care less what they or anyone else thought. As for being friends don’t you think it’s a bit early to start labeling each other? You really only know how I’m acting right now. Who says that I’m not some huge asshole who will rather see you fall flat on your face then be friends with you? To those girls back there I’m now a complete ass, although they already knew that, and to you I’m being a kind gentleman. Should you not already get some sort of idea from how I treated them?”
Yep you guessed it his jerk personality was kicking in. Some people would say that he starts becoming an ass to see if people would stick around him. Some thought he acted this way to push those who were getting to close away so they could not see the real him. Truth is his just an asshole, mostly.
“I will say I regard you with a higher inelegance than them and find you much more interesting. Who knows a friendship or more might evolve or you just might choose to tell me off and walk off.”

Ah well, that was a bit of a blow to the ego, getting a hesitant invitation to be friends thrown back in your face. Aquamarine eyes flashed at the elegantly worded snub--or was it warning--before Riley turned her head back to stare in front of her, better to manage the stairs and better to manage her composure. ouch. Not only was he insinuating she was being naive trying to ascertain whether he was interested in being friends--he had called her highly inelegant! Thank god the witch was very cool when it came to showing her hurt, or at least her discomfiture; the sweet looking face just stayed relaxed and faintly smiling. As if she didn't have a care in the world.
"Yet again, you've made your point"
Riley replied quietly, averting her face from his so she could flash the mistwell who had led her to her dorm another smile. The look on the other's face was something akin to worry, and very possibly envy; three guesses as to why. It might serve her better to halt this little excursion now whilst she still had some of her sanity left... but Riley, despite the utterly feminine, happy-go-lucky image she projected to the world, was no coward. And she certainly never ran out on a pre-ordained activity. She'd just have to watch how close she got to this guy if he was in the habit of pushing people away or treating them as things purely to amuse him. Long fingers ran through her wavy brown hair to smooth it, the unconscious action stretching her long, willowy body that reminded her she was glad for the exercise; and she was looking forward to meeting his dog.
"What kind of dog do you have?"
The witch asked flippantly, keen to get away from her premature request to be friends and back to safer ground. She wasn't making that mistake again.

He had meant to say intelligent but he had slipped up on it and instead of correcting himself, for that would show he had been wrong, he just left it the way it was. She did not make a fuss about it and she did not slap him or just tell him were to go and leave. That was interesting with a bit of a smile he kept walking glad to find that she was not overly emotional. At point in time half the girls would either run off pissed off or crying. He hated it when they did that and he normally forgot about them after wards.
“I have a habit of doing that.”
A real true smile brightened his face when asked what kind of dog he had. The one love in this world for him was his dog. She had been the only living thing to stay with him after his parents had been killed. His grandmother was not what he would call caring family.
“She’s a keeshound, her names Lyda. She’s seven years old now. Most people think she’s still a puppy because of her size and her sweet face. I think she will like you.”
He took the stairs two at a time now in a better mood with the thoughts of taking his dog out for a walk. Riley also seemed like she would provide some good conversation. Pausing on the top stair he looked back at her still smiling waiting.

Inadvertently, the leggy brunette seemed to have touched on the perfect subject to distract the pair from her faux pas--in fact Riley almost gaped when she got a gander at Vance's true smile. Potent stuff. It was completely unfair for the female race to have to resist that kind of genuine affection, even if it wasn't directed at her, it was some pretty amazing stuff. Well, there was a scottish saying that said you should never get between a man and his dog. Or was it his dog? Shrugging slightly at her gap in knowledge, Riley raced to try and catch up with the excited ashburg, tanned hands grabbing at her tumble of light brown hair and securing it behind her head in a neat ponytail.
"I hope so"
Ry murmured, blue-green eyes lighting up with child-like excitement as the pair navigated the staircases. The witch was careful not to look to hard at her counterpart though, he was a bit lethal in this happy frame of mood-- she could handle him much better when he was being arrogant and charming. Arrogant and charming was manageable. Genuinely pleasant was not. Soon enough they reached a door where their journey paused, small scuffing sounds coming from behind it. Riley fairly jumped from foot to foot in impatience, thinking Vance's mood must be infectious to get her fidgeting this much.
"Open open open"
She said, inquisitive eyes bright.

His smile brightened even more, if that was possible, when he saw that she seemed about as excited as he was at meeting his dog. That was rare, on the few times he had taken a girl on a walk with him and his dog they were never really interested in his dog and just tried to hang off him more. Not that did not want attention himself but he liked people who seemed truly pleased to meet his dog. And not just wave it off as just another animal. One thing he never let on to others was how much he liked animals and not just his dog. But his dog was most important to him.
“Alright alright.”
He laughed as he opened the door and out bounded a big ball of fluffy gray and black fur. The medium to smallish dog jumped up excitedly as she pranced around her owner. Jumping upon him for a moment then shifted her interest to the new person. After a quick sniff she gave a happy bark and jumped up on Ry for attention from this new person.
“Down Lyta you know better than to jump on people. Good girl. Lets go for your walk.”
He did not speak in a stern voice at all it sounded more like he was parsing the dog then trying to get her to obey.

A variety of expressions flittered across Riley's face as Lyda pranced through the door; surprise at the sheer fluffiness of her (cute!), involuntary delight at how cute it was, a flash of envy for Vance who owned a dog, excited determination when she decided that she too would own a dog dammit and finally, she reverted back to delight when the cute little thing barked and jumped at her. Ry swiftly crouched down and ran her fingers through the soft fur, innocently enjoying the feeling. It was obvious she'd never been around many dogs, you were supposed to let a dog sniff your hand before you patted them, and you probably shouldn't coo at it ridiculously (for pride if anything) but Riley was oblivious to this as she affectionately coddled the dog.
"Hello there gorgeous... aren't you a fluffy thing? yes you are...."
The witch grinned at the grey animal, wide blue eyes glancing up when Vance informed his pet that they would be going for a walk. But his tone said a little something about who was the master around here! Riley felt her grin widen in amusement. This was too funny..
"Where to?"
Ry asked, reluctant to get up from the floor.

At having someone new close to her face she did not growl or anything like that she instead started licking the face that was now lowered to hers. Seeming to be happy and overjoyed that someone had gotten down to her level. Vance found all this rather amusing and chuckled out loud crouching down as well and rubbing the fluffy head. He adored his dog and he was glad that someone else seemed to take joy in her. Of course there had been a few others who had liked his dog. But they were normally few and far in-between when there was a veela they wanted the attention of instead. “I though we could go out around the castle on the lawn. She loves to run and play, I could get her,” he leaned over to Ry’s ear and spelled, “B.A.L.L. we can play fetch with her. She understands all to well what I’m saying so I have to be careful or she gets over excited.”
Getting up he went into his room after a few minuets he walked back out there was a bulge in his pocket that was round. He knew he could not let Lyta even see the ball or they would hardly even get outside before the dog wanted to play the game. There was no leash in his hand for he never felt there was much of a need for one. His beloved dog hardly ever ran off so he felt there was never a need for it.
“Shall we go or are you going to sit there all day letting Lyta clean your face off?”

Riley spluttered a little in surprise as a wet tongue started bathing her face; the sensation startling as it was gross. Brunette brows knitted together in consternation, prepared to tell the dog to stop, when those liquid brown eyes just stared happily at her, not an evil thought in the world. Sighing in defeat, Riley conceded that perhaps it was easy to understand how Vance might come under the thumb of something so cute looking. The witch held her breath when the veela leant close to her ear and whispered that he would be getting Lyda's ball. She wasn't accustomed to the proximity and had to tamp down an unwelcomed shiver.
"Alright"
Ry murmured, using Vance's absence to rough house with the dog a little bit, her equilibrium restored. At the wizards teasing remark Riley stuck her tongue out at him and straightened, her russet locks swinging from their ponytail.
"I'm ready"
